Shelby Steele - addressing the reality of group dynamics

Shelby Steele wrote an excellent article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday. I want you to read the article. Then read it again. I will comment on it later but I really think those involved in the culture of life movement need to ponder what the article means and how it impacts on the pro-life and pro family movement.

Pro-abortion Irish-American politicians scandalize heritage

Pro-abortion Irish-American politicians such as Senators Edward Kennedy, John Kerry and Vice President Joseph Biden scandalize their Irish roots and bring shame to those who have suffered so much in history to respect their Irish heritage. Indeed it is an embarrassment to the Irish and to Catholics that so many are staunchly pro-abortion and will not respect the rights of the unborn. Not only do they vote in favor of denying the unborn the basic right to life,they accept money from the abortion industry.

What is even more disturbing is the cover that certain priests have given these pro-abortion officials over the years. The poison issuing forth from such enemies of life as Robert Drinan, S.J. now deceased. Further the hierarchy in Washington, D.C. has seemed less concerned about both the babies and the souls of these politicians than about staying out of the headlines of the Washington Post.

Let us be clear. St. Patrick had an abiding care for his flock. He was concerned about their immortal souls and their temporal lot in life. He was a champion for the human person and his legacy is one that cannot be reduced to green beer and marches down Fifth Avenue.

When the Irish came to America, the stories go, they were not wanted. They were ignored and discriminated just for being Irish. According to popular Irish folk lore, there were signs in the stores saying "no Irish need apply." (though some dispute the argument). So what is the difference between those human beings and the unborn in the womb. They are not wanted. They are ignored and discriminated against. NBC is so afraid of the unborn that the television network would not allow a benign commercial extolling the potential of each human life.

The unborn are ignored and there is a sign in America's window that tells them they are not wanted and are better off not born.

Do we wonder that this nation is finding itself in economic difficulties?
When those whose heritage should give them a special appreciation for life, exact their revenge on the innocent, what is a just God to conclude?

When one looks at this nation, a nation of immigrants, of former slaves, of refugees, be they social or economic, of people who wanted a chance, an opportunity, how is it that we can be so callused so as to deny life to an innocent child?

What is so difficult for these politicians to understand?

Is it that they have turned their back on their heritage? Perhaps they are embarrassed by their own past.

It is good that finally some bishops are speaking out in defense of life and recognizing the scandal of Catholic politicians who are pro-abortion.
For the sake of the nation, for the sake of the Church and for the sake of the children, the truth must be spoken in authority and with love.

That is something that would please St. Patrick.

Ted Kennedy - Mary Jo Kopechne Do you remember?

The notion that the British government would honor Ted Kennedy with a knighthood once again points out the dual standard that exists between the liberal aristocracy and the rest of us.

This is the guy who is responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. and yet has remained a sitting senator for all these forty years.

A pro-abortion extremist, Kennedy is a tragic and pitiful figure in American politics, tragic because of the missed potential; pitiful because he never really understood.

Economic lunacy

So let me get this straight.
If I am in debt and broke, the government is going to bail me out.

But if I have saved and paid my bills and acted responsibly, the government is going to raise my taxes because i am "rich" and I need to give the government the money I earned so it can bail out the individuals and persons who have acted irresponsibly.

And then there is the president's comments just because I am doing socialist things, that does not make me a socialist or a Marxist. After all this infusion of government money started before I became president. Except that the TARP program is a form of socialistic intrusion into the private sector. Our government economy is getting more nationally socialistic every time Obama and his minions speak. And it is scaring the ---- out of nations and businesses and companies.
But then that is part and parcel to he socialist approach. Create a crisis. then come to the rescue.

Instead of rewarding people who are trying to keep it together, he has fanned the flames of class envy and separatism. He talks about "bringing everyone together" but his words are like IEDs.

But then I have said this since the beginning. The guy supports killing babies who are not hurting anyone. The fact that he wants to strip you of your life savings either by destroying the economy or taxing you out of it should not surprise anyone.

and the irony is that he has said all of this in public. Why some people refused to believe him is beyond me.

Hold on to your seats. It is going to get wild.

Kmiec steps in it agian

As if he has nothing better to do, Doug Kmiec now wished to see the California Supreme Court overthrow the will of the people regarding Proposition 8. Prop 8 was passed by the people of the state of California after the same Supreme Court nullified a law passed by the people in defense of marriage. Kmiec and his fellow law professor from Pepperdine argued in an article published by the San Francisco Chronicle that the Supreme Court could overrule the people because marriage was "of religious origin."
I think that I have heard it all. Of course if Kmies means that because marriage was instituted by God then it is religious in origin, then all creation having been created by God would be religious in origin. The Church teaches that

"The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws. . . . God himself is the author of marriage." The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone through the centuries in different cultures, social structures, and spiritual attitudes. These differences should not cause us to forget its common and permanent characteristics. Although the dignity of this institution is not transparent everywhere with the same clarity, some sense of the greatness of the matrimonial union exists in all cultures. "The well-being of the individual person and of both human and Christian society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life."

God who created man out of love also calls him to love the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. For man is created in the image and likeness of God who is himself love. Since God created him man and woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man. It is good, very good, in the Creator's eyes. And this love which God blesses is intended to be fruitful and to be realized in the common work of watching over creation: "And God blessed them, and God said to them: 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.'"

So marriage predates all established religions. It is the basic building block upon which all societies rest. all cultures have acknowledged the reality of this relationship between a man and woman as fundamental to its survival.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

And what is it that provokes a man to shill for those who would desire to destroy this institution?

I think I know fully appreciate the disgust that the French and polish underground had for their fellow citizens who became collaborators during the Second World War. This contempt also also applies to those so called Catholics who support abortion and to those politicians who claim the Catholic mantle while voting to oppose efforts to protect little children.

Lets be blunt. what two people of the same sex who live together, do sexual things together, etc, act together to imitate marriage, is not marriage. It is a fraud and a a farce. Just as the law refused to say that a man and a woman simply "living together" are not married, so it cannot say that tow people of the same sex masquerading as such are married. It would be the same as trying to explain that 2 plus 2 can equal anything but 4. You can't do it. Not even if you are a famous law professor from Pepperdine. Not even if you are the California Supreme Court. You cannot call a rock a fish unless you want to destroy the integrity and meaning of words.

Then again those who are so selfish in their lives and lifestyles that they would want to destroy society simply to get their way probably have no problem with calling a rock a fish. So then why should the politically correct crowd be so intent on censoring language that they claim offends. But that is the topic of another post.

Kmiec has become the poster child for the anti-Catholic forces in our country. Whatever good will he had in his portfolio has disappeared like the equity in stock market. He is a bad loan whosee ideas have been foreclosed.

An Obituary

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
Why the early bird gets the worm;
Life isn’t always fair;
and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

I Know My Rights,
I Want It Now,
Someone Else Is To Blame, and
I’m A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on.
