A Message to the Republican Candidates

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, the truth is that the petulant and sometimes petty bickering among you has given Barack Obama a pass during a time when everyone should be focused on his insane domestic policies as well as his timid foreign policy. With gas prices in some regions of the country EXCEEDING $5.00/gallon, you all should be picking him apart.  But no, you all have to spend your precious time attacking one another on matters we the voters have little or no concern.

Now you all have some differences among yourselves. Romney supporters talk about electability, while the Santorum folks are pointing out that whoever opposes Obama must be able to attack ObamaCare with some effectiveness. but we all know this. and those who are going to vote are looking for anyone who can take down this current disaster of an administration. so consider what we the voters want. We are looking for someone who can clearly articulate why the current administration must be fired  AND we want someone who can offer sensible solutions to the current economic and government crisis. I include government because government is out of control. The Mean Stream media is all concerned supposedly about Rick Santorum's views on sexual ethics. Meanwhile they ignore the real problems in the economy.

Do you think this is accidental?

The media is in the tank as they say for Obama. The talking heads will lie, manipulate the facts and engineer a smear campaign against the Republican nominee. So it is essential that Obama be the subject of the disdain. And there is PLENTY of incompetence to point out to the American people.

So when the media asks you about contraception, remind the listening audience that Obama is the one trying to impose HIS views on the American people. When the media asks about your rivals, explain that while you think that you are the best candidate in the field, not only are those seeking the nomination all better than Obama, but the average conservative Republican voter would be a better person in the White House than the current occupant. Remember that we all want tot hear what you have to say, not why your opponent is this or that.

Finally, please quit falling into media traps. I know its hard but please try. They are not your friends. Governor Romney, the more you distort the past and the facts, the less credible you become to conservatives. It is better to admit that in the past you were wrong on some matters and that now you have learned and embrace the truth.don't tell me that you supported the Church in Massachusetts while governor. admit that you goofed and that now you realize that it was wrong.

As for you Senator Santorum, when you admit that you made a mistake as with the "no child left behind" issue, please explain to the public what you do believe first and then explain your past miscalculations.  It is much simpler to hte public to know first what you do believe.  As to the Toomy/Specter mess, admit that some people are not going to appreciate your inside baseball political decisions. admit that some people think it was a bad idea but that is the past and you have learned that no good deed goes unpunished. You took one for the "team" and that's politics. don't dwell on it. don't try to offer a detailed explanation. The press is only looking for sound bites to use to beat on you.

Congressman Paul, we all understand, including you, that you re not going to be the nominee. You are trying to advnace some, I repeat some, noble ideas, such as shrinking the size of government. But if you re going to attack your opponents, not that i think it advances your cause, be consistent. This last go-around with you laying off Romney while beating on Santorum, showed you to be a hypocrite - or a conniver. Nether are good labels.

Finally, Mr Speaker, I think it is time to call it quits and return to the very important role you have to point out the real issues in the campaign.  Your appreciation and knowledge of history and its relationship to the problems of today is invaluable to the American public. But your candidacy gets in the way of your being able to speak without everyone thinking you have another purpose for bringing up these important considerations.  So you need to call it a day. Whether you endorse anyone or not, you can help by letting Mitt and Rick sharpen their own positions as you help re-direct the debate back to a referendum on Obama. Frankly you know what your withdrawal will do to the race. It will either give Rick a needed boost or have everyone coalesce around Romney. Now it is my hope that people will pick Rick. but I also want people to understand whoever is the nominee, the party cannot pull another 2008.

So there it is. advice from someone in flyover country who listens to the every day people and hears their struggles and worries. There is so much more to say. But for now - focus on who is causing the crisis in this nation. Who is attacking religious liberty? Who is trying to socialize medicine? Who is interfering in private enterprise? Who supports funding Planned Parenthood? Who is responsible for preventing Keystone form going forward/ who is preventing drilling offshore while allowing foreign oil company operations to act just off our coasts? And the list goes on.

Lets raise the bar, gentlemen.
